Experience

With 14 years of professional experience, I've not only been immensely privileged to have worked for some great companies but also very proud to have worked with some amazing clients.

I am currently employed at e3 Media as Lead Interface Developer. I joined e3 in April 2011.

At e3 Media my role involves building compliant HTML and CSS templates which are then implemented into a Content Management System. Client websites vary from standard desktop websites to responsive websites. Alongside building websites I also produce emails that can also be responsive.

I also act as head to the site build team therefore I get involved with estimating time for front end development on various projects, appraisals and one-to-ones with members of the site build team. I also report to the Head of Technology on a regular basis.

Clients: Principality, West Brom Building Society, Land Rover, Kia, Orange, National Trust, Yodel, The Royal Navy, David Lloyd.

Here are some recommendations given by colleagues whilst at e3 Media:

Nick Clarkson, Senior Front End Developer said:

Steve is a pleasure to work with. He is an organised and diligent technical team leader with a granular focus on details. His HTML / CSS is solid and logically constructed. He has an advanced and unified approach to xBrowser concerns. He is a digital native, a curator with his finger on the pulse. He directs an engaged following on various social networks, the fruits of this he effectively channels into his work. He is active in the local tech scene and can often be found at tech meets and conferences. I very much hope our professional paths will cross again.

From April 2010 to April 2011 I was Self employed.

Due to redundancy I decided to go freelance where I worked at various agencies in and around Bristol producing HTML and CSS templates and emails.

Clients: Tesco, Vodafone, Kia, David Lloyd (intranet), Orange (intranet).

From January 2008 to April 2010 I was employed at McCann Erickson as an Interface Developer:

At McCann Erickson my role involved coding of XHTML and CSS for major client websites. Some sites included implementation of jQuery techniques. Duties also included building HTML emails, constant monitoring of current web trends in order to pass onto fellow colleagues and managing the quality assurance and user testing of websites.

Clients: GoodyearDunlop (Dunlop Tyres, Dunlop Drivers Club, Dunlop Motorcycle, Dunlop Tyre Testing, HiQ, HiQtv), Kohler (Extranet), Ordnance Survey (MasterMap).

Skills

Thirteen years ago when I joined my first digital team I made the decision to develop my skills in front end development, coding HTML / XHTML and CSS along with an understanding of usability and accessibility and the ability to test and debug my code for cross browser/platform compatibility.

Today, I'm continuing to do exactly that. With the inclusion of implementing jQuery for animation and functionality.

Although the specification for HTML5 has not been finalised and CSS3 is gradually being implemented into todays browsers, I keep uptodate and try new techniques.

I am a Mac user who is focused, passionate, dedicated and organised.

I also have

  • excellent attention to detail
  • a good eye for design
  • experience in mentoring others
  • experience in IA/UX/UI

And I'm able to

  • learn quickly and adapt
  • communicate effectively, both written and verbally
  • work independently as well as within a team
  • work under pressure to meet deadlines
  • accurately specify timings
  • analyse, oversee and prioritise projects

About

Steve Avery

I was born on the 9th April 1972. I live in Bristol, UK. On 9th September 2000 I married Clare. We have three amazing children Jack, Luke and Emma.

Outside of work I like to watch the odd movie, listen to the odd album, attempt the odd DIY and of course spend time with my family. Oh, and I'm an avid Apple fan so it's not rare for me to spend an hour or six in the local Apple Store.

I left school in July of 1988 at the age of sixteen with six GCSE's. On leaving I decided to further my education and attended South Bristol college where I studied for a BTEC Diploma in General Art & Design. This was a one year course. Continuing to study at South Bristol College I then took a two year course for a BTEC National Diploma in Art & Design. On passing these two Diplomas I then decided to take a further two year Higher National Diploma course at Cheltenham & Gloucestershire College of Further Education in Design & Electronic Media. After qualifying it was then that I decided to seek full time employment.
